Major James Bruce Miller MC, RE Retd

Maj J Bruce Miller was appointed Honorary Vice-President of 107 (Aberdeen) Sqn ADCC in May 1939.

James Bruce Miller was born in Aberdeenshire in the late 1860’s. Through the 1880’s and 1890’s James Miller was a partner of his family’s firm 'John Miller & Company', Sandilands Chemical Works in Aberdeen.

He joined the 1st Aberdeenshire Royal Engineers (Volunteers) as a 'Gent' in the mid-late 1880’s and was appointed as Second Lieutenant on 2 Nov 1889. He later gained the rank of Captain.

By Aug 1910, Captain Miller was on the retired list of the Territorial Force Reserves and held the honorary rank of Major. In Oct 1914, Captain Miller was enlisted again to support the war effort as part of the City of Aberdeen (Fortress) Engineers (Royal Engineers - Territorial) in the rank of Captain.

On 1 Jan 1918, Captain James Bruce Miller was awarded the Military Cross.

In 1939, when he was granted the honorary position of Vice-President 107 Sqn ADCC, Major J Bruce Miller would have been around 70 years of age.
